Types of damping:

Extensional damping: It is the easiest kind of damping but may not suit all kinds of structures. There will be a type of material called Polymer which transforms vibrational energy in to heat. When it encounters with any sound it expands and then contracts. Since the material expands it is called Extensional damping. It works the best with light weighted objects because it adds some weight to your building while damping.

Constrained layer damping: This type of damping is suitable for heavy objects and heavy objects like walls and ceilings. This process involves using Polymer that turns vibrational energy in to heat. But here polymer is attached in between two sheets made up of hard metal. This is also advantageous because it does not add so much of weight to the building.
